David M. Miller, MD, PhD, FAAD is a dermatologist, internist, and medical oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His clinical and research work centers on patients with advanced and high-risk skin cancers.
Dr. Miller directs the Center for Merkel Cell Carcinoma at Mass General Cancer Center and co-directs the Mass General Brigham multidisciplinary clinic for non-melanoma skin cancers. He practices at Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear, working across dermatology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, and radiation oncology.
The Miller Lab seeks to identify and develop more effective and less morbid treatment strategies for advanced skin cancers. Its work spans investigator-initiated clinical trials, translational studies, collaborative registries, outcomes research, and research methodology. A central goal is to understand why therapies succeed or fail and to use those insights to make treatment more precise, efficient, and patient-centered.
Dr. Miller earned his BA in Political Science, with honors, from Boston College and completed his MD and PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. During his doctoral training, he received an American Diabetes Association Physician-Scientist Training Award and a Fuller Foundation grant and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha.
He subsequently completed residency training in dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center and internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He then completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, followed by a fellowship within the Oncology Center of Excellence at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Miller is board certified in dermatology, internal medicine, and medical oncology. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American Skin Association, ECOG-ACRIN, Project Data Sphere, philanthropic foundations, and industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated research programs.
He is also a co-founder and Scientific Convener of the Society of Cutaneous Oncology and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cutaneous Oncology.
